Hey, guys I have so many books and movie to review for you guys so I have to catch up but, for all of you that don't read my blog I review movies to recommend it for you all I'm not trying to change your opinion as some people have said I am just giving you my opinion on the movie or the book so here we go. The movie their eyes were watching God is originally a book By Zora Neale Hurston a book I haven't read so this review is just solely on the movie.
The movie is about a girl names Janie Crawford's (Halle Berry) quest to finding herself in my opinion. She is married off very young to a really old man by her Grandmother (Ruby Dee), who I think thought she was doing the best thing for her Grandaughter. I don't really dislike her Grandmother she thought she was doing the best thing for Janie. After she is married she decides to leave her husband for another man Joe Starks (Ruben Santiago Hudson) He has ambition and drive and he promises to take her to see the world. Their first stop is a town for Colored people which he decides to build up and after a few years Janie starts to see a change in him he loses the drive he had he's losing his sense of adventure the whole reason she fell in love with him. He see's the other men lusting after her and makes her cover up her head with a cloth basically covering up her freedom and therefore who she is as a person. Janie is getting tired and is falling out of love with him and she stays with him until he dies. A new guy comes to town named tea cake (Micheal Ealy). She slowly begins to fall for him besides their drastic age difference. The other women tell her not to but she runs away with him and they go on an adventure of just living life not worrying about where life is taking them. Their home ends up getting hit with a tornado and in the act of saving Janie Tea cake is but by a rabbit dog and she end up having to kill him for her safety.
The writing in this movie is amazing this movie is the true story about just living and if you're not happy with something then you change it. Never giving up on what your initial idea of life was and just living not caring what anyone thinks and being open to what life gives you and being open so it can take you where your meant to go and just follow your heart.
I think this is one of Halle Berry's best performance because I think in some way this story has a lot of similarities to her real life. Sometimes as Artist we have attendance to do things that we relate to. I think she really lived this role because just the fact that she had to play such a range of ages shows how in tune to herself as an actor and how much she pays attention to the behavioral differences of people in general. Micheal Ealy did an amazing job in this movie I think the way him and Halle Berry connected was a cool thing to see on screen because I know they were a real life couple but they were playing two different people on screen so sometimes the contrast is hard to get to mesh. Some of the people that had smaller roles were good at carrying the movie some examples are Terrence Howard he really did a good job just with the role in some way of pushing and being that kind of creepy guy that is always hitting on you. I also enjoyed the group of women they kind of added a choir affect that are in greek plays. They kind of kept the movie rolling acting as choir.
I do recommend this movie to people that are into those weird kind of hopeless romantics but it is kind of and adult film so I don't recommend you watch it if your like twelve.
